Family Study Page 1 Thessalonians 1:1-10 October 25, 2026
UNTIL JESUS COMES – Every generation faces it’s own social, moral and political challenges. Instigators in every generation use the chaos to stir streams of rebellion and change. The scriptures reveal that the turmoil, confusion, and conflict will one day be overcome with the righteousness, peace, and joy in the Kingdom of God – when Jesus returns. How do Christians respond to our culture until the Lord returns to make things right.
The short letter from the Apostle Paul to the people who have become followers of Jesus in the city of Thessalonica addresses the questions we are asking in our generation. How do I know if my beliefs in Jesus are true and valid? Why are things around me becoming more volatile toward Christian beliefs and value system? Will the Lord return soon? What happens to followers of Jesus when they die? How should I chart my course until Jesus returns?
The missionary Apostle composes this encouraging letter to a fragile church. Though these believers are novices in their walk with God, the Apostle Paul anticipates great courage and resilience in their lives if they can hold on to HOPE. Prepare your heart to embrace HOPE along with these first century believers. May the themes and prayers of this letter help you experience a new way forward for you and your family – discover your life with HOPE.
Discussion Questions and Action Steps for you and your family
With your family or a group of friends, have each person identify if they tend to be a better “long-range planner” or a “make it work now” type of person. What is the upside, and the downside, of your style?
Read 1Thess. 1:1-10; and Acts 17:1-9. How do these stories reveal some elements of gospel impact and response among the people of Thessalonica? What insight or phrase captured your attention? Why do you imagine that the Holy Spirit drew your attention there? What do you discover about God/Jesus? What do you discover about humans/yourself?
In what area of your life are you most likely to forget about Jesus’ return? Have two people in your group/family tell the story of how they first heard and accepted the Good News about Jesus in their life. Tell someone this week about how your eager anticipation for Jesus’ return is influencing your plans for the week ahead.
Gracefully Broken - Matt Redman
Take all I have in these hands and multiply, God all that I am and find my heart on the altar again. Set me on fire. Set me on Fire.
Here I am, God, arms wide open; pouring out my life, gracefully broken.
My heart stands in awe of your name. Your mighty love stands strong to the end. You will fulfill your purpose for my. You won’t forsake me; You will be with me.
All to Jesus now. All to Jesus now. Holding nothing back. Holding nothing back. I surrender. I surrender. I surrender. I surrender!
“Remembering before our God and Father your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.”
1 Thessalonians 1:2
Come Jesus Come - CeCe Winans
Sometimes I fall to my knees and pray Come Jesus come; Let today be the day! Sometimes I feel like I’m gonna break. But I’m holding on to a hope that won’t fade.
Come Jesus come We’ve been waiting so long; For the day You return To heal every hurt And right every wrong; We need You right now Come and turn this around. Deep down I know, This world isn’t home, Come Jesus come.
There’ll be no war And there’ll be no chains When Jesus comes. Let today be the day! He’ll come for the weak And the strong just the same; And all will believe In the power of His name.
One day He’ll come, And we’ll stand face to face; Come and lay it all down, Cause it might be today! The time is right now. There’s no need to wait; Your past will be washed by rivers of grace!!
I Trust In God! - Maverick City
Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine, He’s been my “fourth man in the fire” time after time; Born of His Spirit Washed in His blood; And what He did for me on Calvary Is more than enough!
I trust in God, My Savior; The One who will never fail He will never fail!
Perfect submission All is at rest I know the Author of tomorrow Has ordered my steps; So this is my story and this is my song praising my risen King and Savior all the day long.
I sought the Lord and He heard and He answered; (3x) That’s why I trust Him! That’s why I trust Him!
“You turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for His son from heaven whom He raised for the dead, Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come!”
1 Thessalonians 1:9-10
Turn Your Eyes - Natalie Grant
O soul are you weary and troubled, No light in the darkness you see; But just one look at the Savior Is life more abundant and free. So just look up, your help is on the way.
Turn, turn your eyes upon Jesus; Look full, look full, look full in His wonderful face; And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, When you turn, turn your eyes upon him.
His Word forever unfailing, His promise an anchor to hold; Here in the midst of your sorrow, His presence is healing your soul. So just look up, your help is on the way!
In the light of his glory and grace, There is freedom, healing filling this place. In the light of his glory and grace, There’s revival, it’s stirring, shaking this place. In the light of his glory and grace, Hear the chains hit the ground all over this place
“For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled and godly lives in the present age, waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.”
Titus 2:11-13
