Navigating a Broken World - October 26th
Navigating a Broken World: Choosing Friends This week’s Brite lesson (1 Samuel 20) is about David and Jonathan and the kind of friendship they had. Kids will see what it looks like to care about someone, stick with them and help each other follow God. Friendships can be tricky at this age. Some kids are still trying to find their people, and others are dealing with friendships that don’t feel great. This week, we’re talking about what a good friend looks like. Someone who is kind, honest and helps you make good choices. Take a few minutes this week to check in on your kid’s friendships. Ask who they like being around and how those friendships feel. It’s a simple way to help them think about the kind of friend they want to be and the kind of friends they want to have. Here’s how you can discuss it at home: Discuss: Share about how you met your best friend. Discuss: What are some characteristics of true friends? Discuss: What does God have to say about that? Say: Friendships are very important and are a gift from God. We can all think of friends who have helped us in many ways. But you can likely also think of friends you have had who have gotten you into trouble. 1 Corinthians 15:33 says: Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.” In other words, if we spend a lot of time with people who aren’t living like God wants them to, we are likely to end up not making great choices as well. Our friends influence us a lot, so it is important that we spend time with people who help our relationship with God. It is hard enough to follow God’s plan in our lives. Imagine how much easier it would be if you had a friend group who encouraged that? Show love to all people, but be picky in who your closest friends are.

Navigating A Broken World - October 19th
Navigating a Broken World: Foster Care This week’s Brite lesson (1 Samuel 1–3) includes a moment that might feel a little confusing at first. Kids will hear how Hannah brought her son Samuel to live and serve at the temple as a way of keeping a promise she made to God. It’s a story that shows both her deep love for God and her deep love for her son. For some kids, this may connect to their own story, especially those who are in foster care or living with someone other than their parents. That can come with a lot of questions and emotions. This week, we’re reminding kids that no matter what their story looks like, God sees them, cares about them and stays with them. If this comes up at home, give your kids space to talk and ask questions. You can remind them that they are deeply loved and that God is with them in every part of their story. Here’s how you can discuss it at home: Discuss: What did you think about Hannah leaving Samuel to grow up in the temple? Discuss: Are there situations where kids live with people who aren’t their parents? Say: Sometimes kids live with other family members. Sometimes kids live in foster care, which means they live with another family because there is a reason they cannot live with their own. Discuss: What do you think God has to say about that? Say: God loves when families grow by including others. Psalm 68:6 says: God settles the solitary in a home. In other words, God puts those who are alone in families. Sometimes, kids end up alone because their parents are sick or going through a really tough time. God shows He cares by providing love during that really hard time. There were probably times when it was hard for Samuel to grow up in the temple instead of in his parents’ house. But God used the place where Samuel was to call him and to prepare him to be the prophet of Israel. God cares about every kid and is with every kid, no matter their situation. He can use the really hard things we go through in His plan for our lives.

SERMON NOTES FOR SUNDAY, NOV 1, 2026 Prepare your heart for this Sunday’s morning message by reading the below Family Discipleship Plan, Discussion Questions & Action Steps, Sermon Slides & Songs. Family Study page 1 Thessalonians 2:1-16 November 1, 2026 UNTIL JESUS COMES – Every generation faces it’s own social, moral and political challenges. Instigators in every generation use the chaos to stir streams of rebellion and change. The scriptures reveal that the turmoil, confusion, and conflict will one day be overcome with the righteousness, peace, and joy in the Kingdom of God – when Jesus returns. How do Christians respond to our culture until the Lord returns to make things right. The short letter from the Apostle Paul to the people who have become followers of Jesus in the city of Thessalonica addresses the questions we are asking in our generation. How do I know if my beliefs in Jesus are true and valid? Why are things around me becoming more volatile toward Christian beliefs and value system? Will the Lord return soon? What happens to followers of Jesus when they die? How should I chart my course until Jesus returns? Hope in the Gospel of Jesus was birthed in Thessalonica through messengers with a distinct character. The motivations, and methods of their lives unlocked doors to HOPE in their hearers. Even in the face of challenges Paul and Silas modeled an authenticity, resolve, and compassion that was welcomed by seekers ready to listen and believe the message of the Gospel. When the messengers reflect the character and spirit of Jesus, the Savior comes triumphantly to the heart those who will receive Him. Discussion Questions and Action Steps for you and your family With your family or a group of friends, have a couple of people explain the principle of “return on investment”. Then ask a few people to tell some stories of ongoing investment in people that produced a valuable return? Read 1Thess. 2:1-20; and Romans 5:8. How do these scriptures reveal the motives of a Spiritual investor? What insight or phrase captured your attention? Why do you imagine that the Holy Spirit drew your attention there? What do you discover about God/Jesus? What do you discover about humans/yourself? According to these verses (1 Thess. 2:19-20) what will be one of your joys when Jesus returns? Have each person identify their “High 5” – five people they are praying will accept the Gospel of Jesus. Then have each person identify their “ONE” of those five who seems open to gospel investments by you. Pray for each other to be generous Gospel Investors in their “ONE” this week. I’ll Go Where You Want Me to Go - Carrie RounsefellClick To Watch Video It may not be on the mountain’s height, or over the stormy sea; It may not be at the battle’s front My Lord will have need of me; But if, by a still small voice, He calls to paths that I do not know, I’ll answer, dear Lord, with my hand in thine, I’ll go where You want me to go. I’ll go where You want me to go, dear Lord, over mountain or plane or sea; I’ll say what You want me to say, dear Lord, I’ll be what You want me to be. Perhaps today there are loving words which Jesus would have me speak; There may be now in the paths of sin some wanderer whom I should seek; O Savior, if You will be my guide, though dark and rugged the way, My voice shall echo Your message sweet, I’ll say what You want me to say. There’s surely somewhere a lowly place, in earth’s harvest fields so wide, Where I may labor through life’s short day for Jesus, the crucified; So trusting my all into Your care, and knowing that You love me, I’ll do Your will with a heart sincere, I’ll be what you want me to be. “We were gentle among you, like a nursing mother taking care of her own children. So, being affectionately desirous of you, we were ready to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you had become very dear to us.” 1 Thessalonians 2:7-8 Come Jesus Come - CeCe WinansClick To Watch Video Sometimes I fall to my knees and pray Come Jesus come; Let today be the day! How do I know if my beliefs in Jesus are true and valid? Why are things around me becoming more volatile toward Christian beliefs and value system? Will the Lord return soon? What happens to followers of Jesus when they die? How should I chart my course until Jesus returns? The missionary Apostle composes this encouraging letter to a fragile church. Though these believers are novices in their walk with God, the Apostle Paul anticipates great courage and resilience in their lives if they can hold on to HOPE. Prepare your heart to embrace HOPE along with these first century believers. May the themes and prayers of this letter help you experience a new way forward for you and your family – discover your life with HOPE. Discussion Questions and Action Steps for you and your family With your family or a group of friends, have each person identify if they tend to be a better “long-range planner” or a “make it work now” type of person. What is the upside, and the downside, of your style? Read 1Thess. 1:1-10; and Acts 17:1-9. How do these stories reveal some elements of gospel impact and response among the people of Thessalonica? What insight or phrase captured your attention? Why do you imagine that the Holy Spirit drew your attention there? What do you discover about God/Jesus? What do you discover about humans/yourself? In what area of your life are you most likely to forget about Jesus’ return? Have two people in your group/family tell the story of how they first heard and accepted the Good News about Jesus in their life. Tell someone this week about how your eager anticipation for Jesus’ return is influencing your plans for the week ahead.
